Jack Hatzfeld: A Creationist in the making

In order to escape the day-to-day repetition, it helps to develop a passion. Some play sports, some join clubs, and others use their time to create. Jack Hatzfeld, a creationist in the making, uses his time taking photographs.
“I love recreating memories,” he said. “Whether it be good or bad, I like to document my life because visuals help me look back on specific moments.”
Hatzfeld has taken all of the photography classes here at Olathe Northwest, and has just recently been hired on as an assistant for a professional photographer in the Kansas City metro area.
“Her name is Melissa Slater and I get an incredible amount of exposure through her,” he said.
Although Jack has only been taking pictures for a year and a half, the final products reflect nothing but professionalism.
“I sell my work all throughout the Olathe and Overland Park area, but I’m not necessarily doing it for the money,” he said. “I’m doing it because I want my works to be appreciated.”
Even though Hatzfeld is a young photographer, experience is something he will always have on his side. Jack has traveled to New York City, Philadelphia, New England, Vermont, and Connecticut, all to take pictures.
“I’ve received great experiences through photography, and I feel like I’ve seen most things kids my age don’t get to.”
This young creationist is still developing his style. His pictures range from portraits, to landscapes, and even wildlife photography.
“If you look at my portfolio, you can really see the diversity of my works,” he said. “I haven’t found my ‘thing’ yet, and I’m still young enough to where I still have time to find my true calling.”
As far as the future goes, Jack Hatzfeld still plans to keep photography in his life. He plans to major in mass communications and continue photography as an occupation.
“Being a photographer is obviously not the highest paying job, but I’m mostly considering my long term happiness.”
